Electric Wheelchair Motor — Brushed & Brushless

ZVCARE builds both brushed gear motors (DR1 200W, DR2 250W, DR3 320W) and the brushless electric wheelchair motor DR8 for electric wheelchairs and mobility scooters. Every model uses an electromagnetic brake — release-to-stop, power-off holding, and locked on slopes — and every motor ships with its factory-matched controller.

Why Dealers Stock ZVCARE Motors

Six reasons our wheelchair motors are an easy add to your parts line.

Electromagnetic Brake — Standard on Every Model

All our motors use an electromagnetic brake with a solenoid valve: release the joystick and the chair stops, cut the power and it still holds — even on a slope. Electronic-only brakes can't lock firmly and may roll back on inclines.

Electromagnetic brake

Brushed Range: 200W, 250W, 320W

The DR1, DR2, and DR3 brushed gear motors cover 200W to 320W at 24V. Brushed drive means lower cost, simple control, and strong starting torque — the practical choice for value-positioned chairs and price-sensitive markets.

Brushless DR8: Maintenance-Free Drive

The DR8 brushless electric wheelchair motor has no carbon brushes to wear out — nothing to replace, ever. Sealed grease lubrication keeps it maintenance-free for its whole service life.

Maintenance-free

Quiet, Efficient, Longer Range

Without brush friction, this brushless electric wheelchair motor runs quieter and converts more battery energy into motion instead of heat. Less wasted energy means more kilometers per charge for the end user.

Higher efficiency

Strong Climbing, Stable on Slopes

High-torque gearing (17:1 reduction on the DR8) delivers steady hill climbing under load. Combined with the electromagnetic brake, the chair holds its position on slopes instead of drifting.

17:1 gearing

Manual / Electric Clutch (DR8)

The DR8 includes a hand/electric changeover switch: flip to manual mode and the chair pushes freely like a manual wheelchair — easy for attendants, transport, and tight indoor spaces.

Brushed vs Brushless at a Glance

Commutation
Brushed: Carbon brushes + commutator · Brushless: Electronic (via iV2 controller)
Upfront cost
Brushed: Lower · Brushless: Higher
Control
Brushed: Simple · Brushless: Requires matched brushless controller
Starting torque
Brushed: Strong · Brushless: Strong, smoother delivery
Noise
Brushed: Low · Brushless: Very low — quieter
Efficiency
Brushed: Standard · Brushless: Higher — less energy lost as heat
Maintenance
Brushed: Brushes wear over time; periodic inspection · Brushless: Maintenance-free (sealed lubrication)
Service life
Brushed: Limited by brush wear · Brushless: Much longer — no wearing commutation parts
Best for
Brushed: Value models, cost-sensitive markets · Brushless: Premium models, low-noise and low-upkeep positioning
Controller
Brushed: iV1 (brushed) · Brushless: iV2 (brushless)

How to Choose: Brushed or Brushless

Pick brushed (DR1 / DR2 / DR3) when upfront cost matters most and the chair serves moderate daily use — lower cost, simple control, strong starting torque. Pick brushless (DR8) when you want to promise customers quieter operation, no brush maintenance, and longer service life. Either way, the motor and controller must be the same type — pair brushed motors with our iV1 brushed controller and the DR8 with the iV2 brushless controller.

Key Facts at a Glance

What every dealer should know about ZVCARE motors.

  • Electromagnetic brake on every model: release-to-stop, power-off holding, locked on slopes.
  • Two drive philosophies: brushed 200–320W for value models; brushless DR8 for quiet, maintenance-free premium positioning.
  • Matched with the right controller: brushed ↔ iV1, brushless ↔ iV2 — never mixed, factory tested as a set.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get instant answers to common inquiries about brushed and brushless motors, ordering process, and support services.

How do I choose between brushed and brushless motors? +

It comes down to cost versus lifetime value. Brushed motors (DR1/DR2/DR3) cost less upfront, control simply, and deliver strong starting torque — ideal for value-positioned chairs. Brushless (DR8) costs more initially but runs quieter, needs no brush maintenance, wastes less energy as heat, and lasts much longer. Match the choice to your market positioning.

Do I have to buy the motor and controller together? +

We strongly recommend it. Brushed motors must pair with the iV1 brushed controller; the brushless DR8 must pair with the iV2 brushless controller — they cannot be mixed. Factory-matched sets are tested together before shipping, which eliminates compatibility issues for your technicians.

What does the electromagnetic brake actually do? +

Three things: when the rider releases the joystick the chair stops; when power is cut the brake still holds; and on a slope the chair stays locked in place. It uses a solenoid valve in the motor — unlike a pure electronic brake, which can let the chair roll back on inclines.

What is the difference between the DR1, DR2, and DR3? +

All three are 24V brushed gear motors with electromagnetic brakes. The difference is power: DR1 is 200W (3500 RPM), DR2 is 250W, and DR3 is 320W (4500 RPM). Same mounting concept — choose power to match chair weight and terrain.

Which wheelchairs use the DR8 brushless motor? +

The DR8 is our 8-inch brushless wheel motor, fitted on models like the EW100. It suits any 24V wheelchair or electric trolley design needing quiet, maintenance-free drive.

What maintenance does a brushed motor need? +

Carbon brushes are wearing parts — over a long service life they eventually need inspection and replacement, unlike the maintenance-free brushless DR8. For dealers this is a straightforward service item, and we supply guidance and spare brushes.

What are your MOQ, lead time, and warranty for motors? +

MOQ is 1 pair, lead time is 7 days after payment, and motors carry a 12-month warranty. OEM options (power rating, mounting, packaging) are available — contact Peter or Alice for wholesale pricing.
